Underbelly season 3
is an Australian television true crime-drama which originally broadcasted on Nine Network. Each series contains 13 parts and is based on real life events including the Melbourne gangland killings between 1995 to 2004, the Griffith drug trade which happened between 1976 to 1987 and the Kings Cross scene between 1988 to 1999. The first series is based on the book Leadbelly: Inside Australia's Underworld, by The Age journalists John Silvester and Andrew Rule.
A fourth and fifth series of the crime franchise are currently being planned and could enter production in late 2010 to early 2011. Three telemovies are also currently in production, the trilogy being called The Underbelly Files with the first being entitled Tell Them Lucifer was Here, the second being Infiltration and the third being The Man Who Got Away.
