Melissa WAS looking for somehting.......................... maybe Melissa was led to think Ian was kidnapped and will do ANYTHING to get him back? Even plant a ring for the girls to find? maybe she was looking for the perfect spot.

Hmm, this could be. Especially because she vanished for a week or so & she is very smart - so she could mastermind the whole A thing.
Plus when Spencer asked Ian over IM his middle name, that is something Melissa could've known too. And since that was A doing all the IMs... that would make sense.
